Coming soon...

This is just an update to inform you that there is a new version coming. It's a minor release, but adds a new feature suggested by one of you that I think is a fabulous idea. The new version will allow you to long click contact data on the family details page and give you the option of sending that data to any app that will take it.

Why would you want this? I frequently get texts and emails from bishopric members asking for phone numbers. This will allow you to long click a number and send an email or SMS with part or all of the contact data. Copy is also available.

This was not my idea, but I think it is a great one and will be using it frequently.

Look for it soon. The code is done but it needs some testing.

  1. Ward Roster is a great program. Can you make the addresses into google maps URL's? With that we could navigate to people or do a street view straight from Ward Roster.

  2. PatrioticDad,

I'm a bit confused by your comment. The thing is, the addresses ARE links to Google maps.

I live in a fairly new neighborhood and when I started this program, the link would work, but Google Maps wouldn't find my neighborhood. Now, it finds me no problem.

So, just a few questions.... What happens when you click (tap with your finger) on the address? What phone are you using? Hopefully, we can figure out what's going on.

Is anyone else having this problem?

  3. The phone is a Motorola Droid (Android 2.0). I click a name, then "Contact". The phone and email address are clickable (both look like a hyperlink) and work great. The home address does not look like a hyperlink and nothing happens when I click on it (long or short).

  4. Also sounds like at least one other person is unable to click the address. See the post #8 in this thread: Here

  5. PatrioticDad,

Okay, that is great information. It appears that the operating system is not recognizing the address. When programming, I have the option of indicating that I expect an address or a phone number in a certain field and if I indicate that I expect that, then the operating system looks through the field and highlights anything it finds that matches the criteria. So, it sounds like it's just a matter of the operating system not recognizing the address.

So, in a way that's good, because we know what the problem is, but it's also bad, because it may not be an easy fix. Is that a problem for all addresses in your ward? or just a particular one? Could you send me one of the addresses with the problem so I can see if there is anything I can do about it?

  7. Hey
Thanks for the great app. I only have one problem. When I put my Ward list in, it only gives me families A thru I in the list. I'm really clueless on what to do. Thanks again. I can't wait to use it. You don't know how many times I've been in a situation where I needed someones number and thought if only I had the Ward list on my phone, and the Google maps option is just one more plus.

  8. Greg, I need more info. What browser are you using? Did you put it in the WardRoster folder on the sdcard?

Andrew, it looks like there might be a data problem with someone in the I's or the J's. What type of file are you importing? From the ward computer or from the website? Something is up with the data, so take a look at it and see if you notice anything. If you want me to look at it, you can send it to mywardroster [at] gmail.com.

  10. So here are the steps I took,

    1. From the latest version of Mozilla Firefox I went to the Ward Website accessed through Lds.org. 2. After signing in I selected the membership directory and selected csv.
    3. I saved the csv file as Directory under the mounted Droid device under the Ward Roster folder (there are two other folders in this directory).
    4. I then unmounted the device and hit Import from CSV.

    Help!!!

  11. I also have the new Motorola Droid, and am not getting it to import the csv. I tried both the Membership.csv and exporting a csv from the website and naming it Directory.csv. They are in the WardRoster directory.

  12. Greg and Marty,

It sounds like you guys are doing it right. Are you using windows? For most files, can you see the extension types? For example, when you look at a Word Document, do you see "DocumentName.doc" or do you just see "DocumentName"? This is a guess, but if Windows is hiding the extensions (default functionality) and you save the file as Directory.csv, it may actually be naming it Directory.csv.csv, which the program wouldn't recognize.

so, that's a guess. When it doubt, email the file as I have a difficult time guessing what is wrong otherwise.

    I hope that helps.

    Alan

  15. I have the 0.2.0 version, just download the csv file from church website, put the file on the SDcard and imported. I can see a place for the pictures the names of the family members and in the other tab I have address and phone number. address will go to google maps and phone will dial or I can sent the information out. However I have no email address at all. The names of the family members don't have any links. I see in the csv file name and email are grouped together. ex. "name1 (name1emailaddress)","name2 (name2emailaddress)",... note:() is actually greater than and less than symbols

Does your import bring in email address from the csv file?

BTW I'm using the new HTC Hero phone.

    Thanks

  16. Tom,

I think that is normal behavior. The church has recently updated some of their CSV exports, but I don't think they have touched the website yet. I overlooked the email address in the last version, but will be including that soon.

I am rolling off another project and will soon have some time to put in this app and will include that fix as well as the new CSV formats.
