0.4.0 - Home Teachers and Organizations

The most notable additions in this release are the ability to import Home Teachers and Organizations using the files provided by the MLS system on the ward computer. Include the HomeTeaching.csv and Organization.csv file in the /sdcard/WardRoster/ directory when importing to leverage this functionality.

Some other features:

- instant dial: with this feature enabled, phone numbers will dial immediately instead of loading on the dialer window.
- improved navigation: added menus
- usage reporting: I'm collecting a few statistics about the usage of the app. This will give me aggregated data on general app usage. Please note that no membership data is being collected.
- single parent families - there was a bug where clicking on a child in a single parent family sometimes produced an error.

  1. Thanks for the update. This version fixes the single family bug that I was experiencing. I also appreciate the menu option to turn photos off (since I haven't been using that feature - yet). I also really like the organization menu to view who's doing what in an organization.

    Thanks again.

    Craig.

  2. Great upgrade! I'm on a droid and I'm still having the issue where clicking on the address does not bring up google maps/nav. A long press brings up the copy and send options, but a short press does nothing.

  3. @cb: thanks for pointing that out. I neglected to include that in the post. That's a bug I finally encountered in my own ward.

@PatrioticDad: I might have to code around that. The problem is that the android is not recognizing the data as an address, so it very well could be the formatting.

  4. I'm not sure where to put feature requests, but could you utilize the email addresses associated with a particular member on the website? That way, you can click email and have the default email app open with the email address already input.

  5. ASUDave: Noted. I'm hoping to include that soon.

  6. Could you be more specific about what data you now are collecting from users for your statistics? This might affect whether some people decide to use your app or not.

  7. Boomer,

Beside the default stuff that Flurry collects, I'm only grabbing the counts of what parts of the apps are being used and a rough (city) location of where the app is being used.

  8. Can you use this to download multiple wards (i.e. all the wards in my stake)? My wife is in the Stake Primary Presidency and likes to have all the stake contacts in her phone. Could I just download each ward separately and have it run to separate directories or categories?

  9. Mark,

That's not currently supported functionality. You might be able to get an entire stake in by combining the files from each ward and importing it as if it were one ward. You'd might get the full list of people, but it would treat it as one big ward.

There's also no guarantee that an import that massive would work.

I'll count that as another vote for a stake app though. It's on my to-do list.

  10. This is by far the app that I use the most on my MyTouch phone. My hat goes off to Alan for putting this together...

  11. I have directory.csv working (download from website). I installed latest version and went to the MLS and placed the hometeaching.csv file in the same directory, but APP won'r read this file. I've uninstalled/reinstalled. I even got rid of the directory.csv file, uninstalled, then reinstalled and the app says it doesn't find any csv files, even thought the hometeaching.csv file is in right locating. I put the directory.csv file back in place and app reads it just fine.

    Any Ideas?
I have the Motorola Droid (Verizon)

  12. Leon,

    You can't use Directory.csv with HomeTeaching.csv.

If you are using the Website as your source, you can't get Home Teaching. It's assumed that if you have access to the ward computer, you will get both your Membership directory and your HomeTeaching file from MLS.

  13. Thanks Alan,
I had the clerk download the HomeTeaching data for me (I'm EQ president) as I don't have export privilege. I didn't do the Membership download from the MLS because I wasn't sure if it had information I shouldn't have. I'll check with ward clerk to see what info is in the Membership and I'll try both if appropriate. Thanks again.

  14. I love this app, and huge thanks to Alan for developing and improving it. I use it constantly in my calling.
I've downloaded the Home Teaching info, etc, but I've noticed that a single junior companion shows up over and over again bumping the correct junior companion out of the list. I'm not sure I can see a pattern yet, but I've noticed that my Teachers Q pres has more home teaching to do on my Android that he does in the MLS. ;-)

  15. BDH,

You are the first to mention a bug in Home Teaching, so I'm not sure what is going on there. Just a couple of quick thoughts:
    - Did you pull the Membership.csv and HomeTeaching.csv at the same time? (both files being used were created at the same time)
    - Does the HomeTeaching.csv file look good? No discrepancies there as far as assignments go?

  16. Agree with Mark--would be great for Stake Leaders to be able to load multiple wards on the Motorola Droid! I tried to combine wards into one big file, and did not work! Help please!!!!

  17. Please modify to work for stake leaders. Having this tool for use with all wards would be outstanding!

  19. The ward download as a csv worked for my droid without a hitch. I would like to see an ability to use that data to organize committees, routes etc within my ward site on my phone. Is that possible?

  20. pjnicholls,

So, you essentially are wanting to be able to make custom lists, right?

That's something you should see in a future version.

  21. I am new to this group, so if this has been requested before please count it as a second vote. I also would vote for a Stake version.

What I would like to see is a Home Teaching/Visiting Teching section. Like click on it and it would show you all of the home teachers and be able to click on one to see their route with drill down to person information. THis would be most helpful in meetings.

    Thanx for the great app.
